Antique Stone Bodhisattva
The bodhisattva is one who foregoes his own spiritual liberation for the sake of helping all other beings in attainment of nirvana. This Cambodian antique Buddhist head is marked by a crisp linearity, note the high austere crown. The only decorative element is formed by clusters of locks about the bodhisattva's temples. The gaze is powerful and the mouth forms a pleasing expression of serene happiness appropriate to a being with a disposition of exalted generosity. Noteable are the elongated lobes of the ear, absent of jewellery but suggesting the wearer to have been of noble birth. Stretched ears are a sign of prosperity in ancient asian cultures.
